The Golden Bantam fights back!

Was informed via an internet forumn for expats here in Germany about the "GoldenBantam" protest movement here. If you plant "Golden Bantam" sweetcorn for seed saving you must legally be informed whether they are growing GM crops near you.

Seems a great way to protest GM.

Broccoli cheese fritatta

Tonight's self made recipe was based upon the pumpkin and ham recipe I'd made recently and was simply a broccoli cheese version. Side dish was cabbage.

Both veg out of my freezer, both from my Sonnenacker!

A very organic day

Today I fried tasty apple pancakes to the Babies, made our own yoghurt with our little machine, racked my own home harvested grape wine, baked a whole meal loaf of bread, and served up a fantastic ham and pumpkin fritatta with a salad.

When you wiki exotic words like "fritatta" you learn the essence of the recipe which is basically an aromatic base of onion or leek, then the filling, need not be ham and pumpkin - could be perhaps broccoli and cheese - then pour the herby egg mix over the top then plonk in the oven. Makes me feel like a cook when I've sussed these things out!

Organic farming in Cuba

Highly interesting link found regarding the conversion of Cuba to organic after the collapse of the Societ system here

Strong Enough?

Yesterday's thawed out beef permitted the creation of a classic Russian beef and mushroom combination Beef Stroganoff, named after the Stroganov family in Russia according to the Wiki gospel.

Pickens Plan and Permaculture

Wow! The stuff I've been reading as fringe on the web goes mainstream as T Bone Pickens is interviewed on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show"! Unbelievable.

Also spent an hour digging up lots on Permaculture which I wish to implement in my garden.

Jars from Vivo

Found some wonderful preserving jars yesterday in Vivo ideal for the apple chutney recipe I saw Hugh make on river Cottage the other day.

Also an old working Zip Drive in the "Elektroschrott" bin! Yay!

Sonnenacker finishes!

Well this is the end of the season for our "Sonnenacker". As I harvested lettuces and sunflower heads to perhaps use to feed the birds my kids roamed around picking flowers. Next year we'll give them a small patch of their own to cultivate, perhaps a few flowers and whatever. Be fun.

I finally used the soil testing kit I bought ages ago on my veg bed and ascertained the pH value to be 7.0 neutral. I understand the ideal to be 6.5 though.
